After reviewing a $196 billion emergency funding request for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan it seems the U.S. may be planning something else. Tucked deep within the funding request is a request for $88 million to modify B-2 stealth bombers so they can carry a newly developed 30,000-pound bomb called the massive ordnance penetrator (MOP).
The MOP is the millitaries largest conventional bomb, or "bunker buster" it is capable of penetrating the ground by 200 ft. before detonating. This is basically a perfect weapon if the U.S. ever needs to penetrate deep within caves or underground facilities.
Now it is true the U.S. has used bunker busters in the war in Afganistan, however major questions arise when dealing with outfitting stealth bombers to carry the 30 ton bunker busters. Why would the U.S need stealth bombers in airspace it controls? Answer is the U.S. does not need them for Iraq or Afganistan. Could this be a prelude to an attack on Iran? I personally hope we can solve this issue without attacking Iran. However after many failed talks and a virtual stalemate it seems that it is inevitable that these weapons will be used on Iran.
